This man was Todros Warshavsky, born in Jerusalem when the Ottoman Empire ruled over this country.
He was an Entrepreneur and Hotelier.
Work soon started at 4 Agrippas street and in the summer of 1936 The Palatin Hotel was inaugurated with great fanfare. It was, at the time, one of the famous hotels in Jerusalem, where Knesset (Israeli Parliament) members had their special rooms on a regular basis. The hotel was very convienient for them as they could walk - without bodyguards - to the Parliament which at the time was a five-minute walk from the hotel.
Since then, the hotel has undergone several changes and renovations. When it was built, they only had one Bathroom and two WC's on each floor, as was the standard in those days. Today, each room has en suite showers and private facilities.
The only thing that could not be changed is to add an elevator ! It could have been convenient...but, it would have spoilt its charm. The hotel employees are always there to help you with your luggage, so that is not a problem...and at least you get the much needed exercise once or twice a day !
Our 20 night stay at Jerusalem's Palatin Hotel was a happy one in every way. It's location could not me more central and its moderate prices represent excellent value for money. Being family run as it is, the atmosphere is especially homely and our hosts Tody and Rosa, their son Eyad and their very helpful staff were never too busy to provide any information one needed. The buffet breakfast was sumptuous, offering a wide variety of fresh fruit juices, yogurts, boiled eggs, cheese, melon and numerous other delicalies - with a selection of teas (including herbal and green teas), coffee and hot chocolate. Every taste was thought of and the staff constantly replenish the supplies before it becomes necessary. Our quad bedroom was most comfortable and had a wide screen TV on which we were able to watch a variety of chs possibleannels including Sky News. We would recommend the Palatin in the strongest possible way and hope to visit there again as soon as possible. Sincere thanks to all at the Palatin!
ReplyDeleteIn 2009 I spend 5 nights at the Palatin Hotel and enjoyed my stay. The location and price were the best, in my opinion, that could be offered in Jerusalem. In just a few short weeks I'll be staying in Jerusalem again and have already booked my stay at the Palatin. I will always consider it my home when in Jerusalem!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to personally thank you for the excellent service and the overall experience I received during my recent visit. My room was excellent and well equipped, the daily breakfast superb and the location of your hotel is perfect for exploring the city. The free wi-fi throughout the hotel is also an added bonus to my stay.
ReplyDeleteAs above give a nice post.the hotel has undergone several changes and renovations. When it was built, they have only one bathroom and two toilets on each floor, is the standard in those days. Today, each room has a private bathroom and shower facilities.

We returned to the Palatin on August 5 2011 for a second 20 night visit, the first a year earlier having been a happy one in every way. Once again our hosts Tody and Rosa, their son Eyal and their very helpful staff made us feel very much at home and returning to the Palatin was like coming home to family. We stayed in the same quad bedroom which again was most comfortable. Once again we would recommend the Palatin in the strongest possible way and hope to pay a third visit as soon as possible. Sincere thanks ove again to all at the Palatin!
