The Tram has finally arrived to Jerusalem!

Just around the corner from the Palatin hotel, on Jaffa road, there are the tram stations that will take you in no time to either the Gates of the Old City, or, in the other direction, to Mount Herzl and the Holocaust Museum.

You take take the tram, and enjoy the different views of Jerusalem during its one hour and half tour of the city.

The Palatin Hotel, which was built in 1936, has no elevator.

No need to worry about the luggage, there is always someone to help our guests with the suitcases.

The Reception is on the first floor from the entrance.
Of course the Hotel has undergone quite a few rennovations.

The last one was at the end of 2008.
All rooms have new and very comfortable beds.
All rooms have new LCD flat screen televisions.
The double and single rooms which are located on the 2nd floor from the entrance underwent a complete facelift, including the en suite showers and private facilities.

The rooms on the third floor from the entrance (the economy double and sinlge rooms) underwent partial renovations.

Restaurants - Few minutes walk from The Palatin

There are over 3000 restaurants/cafes in Israel http://www.restaurants-in-israel.co.il/ of which about 200 are in Jerusalem.

Just about a 5 to 10 minutes walk from the hotel, you will find at least 20, if not more of delicious restaurants, raging from basics like Homous/Tehina/Shwarma and felafel to gourmet French cuisine !
Just around the corner we have the King of Felafel - open from early morning till late at night. Everyody loves his fresh felafels, delicious Shwarma and crispy french fries (chips - for the locals).

Friday nights is always a bit of a problem for the tourists, as they believe that everythng is closed, and that they will not find a decent restaurant. Have no fear....some of the best restaurants are just a few minutes away.
The staff at the reception will gladly advise you, show you on the map where the restaurants are located, and will make a reservation for you, especially for a Friday night, as the places tend to be quite fully booked.

"Focaccia Bar" http://fucaccia-bar.rest-e.co.il/ It has everything for everyone, for all different tastes, and...at reasonable prices. It is open on Friday nights, therefore it is not kosher. One has to book a table for Friday!
"Mona" www.monas.co.il/en.html 5 minute walk from the Hotel.
"Link" Link Café Bar - 10 minute walk from the Hotel. The Link is in an old house refurbished into a restaurant with a garden. There is a nice atmosphere. On Friday afternoon, it’s a meeting place for people who like to meet friends and plan their weekend. You have a selection of meat, fish and all kinds of Mediterranean dishes.
"Chakra" www.chakra-rest.com/AboutEng.aspx This is a very good and elegant restaurant. Less than a 10 minute walk from the Palatin.
A little further away from the hotel, 15 to max 20 minute walk there are lots and lots of Restaurants, which are open on Friday nights, and you will find that it is not a problem to get a good dinner in Jerusalem.

Also open on Friday nights and Saturday, it is best to make a reservation as early as Thursday for Friday night.

The Story

Once upon a time, in 1934, a man in Jerusalem had a vision....have a hotel where his guest would feel at home! A place where one would enjoy the pleasures of being amongst friends and where one would want to come back.

This man was Todros Warshavsky, born in Jerusalem when the Ottoman Empire ruled over this country.
He was an Entrepreneur and Hotelier.

Work soon started at 4 Agrippas street and in the summer of 1936 The Palatin Hotel was inaugurated with great fanfare. It was, at the time, one of the famous hotels in Jerusalem, where Knesset (Israeli Parliament) members had their special rooms on a regular basis. The hotel was very convienient for them as they could walk - without bodyguards - to the Parliament which at the time was a five-minute walk from the hotel.

Since then, the hotel has undergone several changes and renovations. When it was built, they only had one Bathroom and two WC's on each floor, as was the standard in those days. Today, each room has en suite showers and private facilities.

The only thing that could not be changed is to add an elevator ! It could have been convenient...but, it would have spoilt its charm. The hotel employees are always there to help you with your luggage, so that is not a problem...and at least you get the much needed exercise once or twice a day !

1. 45 minute bus or car ride from the airpport. ( There is a Shuttle Service from the airport -Nesher Taxis- which are situated on the right hand side as you leave the arrival hall of the airport. Look for the “Nesher shuttle to Jerusalem” sign. The price is of 55 Shekels per person, ($15.- ) and they bring you up to the Palatin Hotel)
